Maintenance Person

This position requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, standard Level 1 First Aid certificates, WHMIS, basic computer skills, and familiarity with personal protective equipment (PPE).  Read on to learn about the typical responsibilities for this role.

Key Responsibilities

1.  Performing general building maintenance which may include carpentry projects, changing filters and light bulbs, clearing plumbing clogs, repairing faucets etc.  Recording all required repairs and reporting all repairs completed to the Camp Manager on a daily basis.

2.  Uses vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and blinds. Makes minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs.  Performs touch up and finish painting.  Removes daily garbage each day from the camp and burns removed garbage in the incinerator.  Clears snow from entrances and walkways.

Qualifications Needed

1.  Ideal certifications include Level 1 First Aid, Level 3 First Aid, FoodSafe, WHMIS, and a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

2.  Skills needed include basic computer skills, familiarity with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), 2-3 years experience in a maintenance position, ability to read and understand procedures and manuals, and knowledge of both cleaning procedures and equipment care and maintenance.

3.  Physical demands include moving 50 lbs of materials to a building 200 ft away, working with paint, cleaners, solvents, and other chemicals, working in conditions that create dirt and dust, and performing repetitive movements such as crouching, kneeling, and shoveling.
